consists of (left to right) Paul McCann, Ed Caines, Susan Cubbin, and John Cubbin. They got together to play John Clare's music after going to see a play about the poet which made no reference to his music, which was an important part of his life.
Paul mainly plays duet concertina, and is also an experienced tutor, having taught at Concertinas at Witney, and the weekends organised by West Country Concertina players, among others. Loves a good session, and plays music "of any tradition or none". Only occasionally persuaded out from deepest Essex to play on a stage!
Ed Caines is a dynamic fiddle player with an individual style rooted in the English tradition. He is equally happy playing a folk club, ceilidh or pub session and has played in numerous bands; including Tickler's Jam and The Posh Band. The Posh Band's CD "English" has featured in a number of compilations including Hardcore English. He also plays in the Suffolk-based trio Proper English.
Sue is the fiddler for Blackmore Morris men who plays in English music sessions around Essex and parts of Cambridgeshire. She has been a singer as long as she can remember and is a member of Potiphar's Apprentices which performs songs collected in Essex by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Currently working on a revised edition of her book on the subject That Precious Legacy
As you can see, John plays the guitar in the band. He is also a member of Potiphar's Apprentices,
the New Digswell Banjo Band and he dances for Blackmore Morris men.
